CNC Machining RFQ Vietnam: What Buyers Should Send for an Accurate Quote
A good CNC machining quotation starts with a good RFQ.
When suppliers receive incomplete information, they must either ask additional questions or make assumptions.
Both slow down the quotation process.
For international buyers requesting CNC machining from Vietnam, a complete technical package helps suppliers evaluate manufacturability, material, machining, inspection, finishing, and delivery requirements accurately.
1. Send the 2D Drawing
The 2D drawing should communicate manufacturing and inspection requirements such as:
- Dimensions
- Tolerances
- GD&T
- Threads
- Surface finish
- Material
- Drawing revision
- Notes
- Critical characteristics
The latest approved revision should always be clearly identified.
2. Include the 3D CAD Model
Where available, provide a 3D file such as STEP or another agreed format.
The 3D model helps the manufacturing team understand component geometry and plan machining.
The 2D drawing and 3D model should represent the same revision.
3. Specify the Exact Material
Do not write only:
“Aluminum” or “Stainless Steel.”
Specify the required grade where applicable.

rather than simply:

Also define required material documentation or traceability.
4. Provide Quantity
Quote requirements can differ significantly between:

5. Identify Critical Tolerances
Do not rely only on general drawing tolerances when certain dimensions are functionally critical.

6. Define Surface Finish & Secondary Processes
Specify applicable requirements such as:
- Anodizing
- Plating
- Painting
- Powder coating
- Heat treatment
- Grinding

If color, thickness, masking, or other requirements matter, include them.
7. Define Inspection Requirements
State what you expect the supplier to inspect and document.
Examples include:
- Critical-dimension inspection
- First-part inspection
- CMM measurement
- Dimensional report
- Material documentation
- Traceability
Quality requirements affect both quotation and lead time.
8. Specify Packaging
If the parts require:
- Individual wrapping
- Surface protection
- Corrosion protection
- Custom trays
- Customer labels
- Specific quantity per package
define these requirements during RFQ.
Packaging should not become an afterthought after production is complete.
9. Provide the Delivery Destination
A quotation cannot be properly evaluated without understanding where the parts must go.
Provide at least the destination city/state/country when requesting logistics support.
Commercial and delivery responsibilities should be clearly agreed.
10. State the Required Delivery Date
If the project has a deadline, tell the supplier during RFQ.
This allows the manufacturer to evaluate:
